WESA is seeking the ideal candidate to perform a variety of welding and metal fabrication duties associated with domes-tic, reclaimed, and agricultural water and wastewater utility services; fabricate and install special devices; repair trailers, backhoes, tractors, and trucks; and perform related duties as assigned.

Immediate Impact: The successful candidate will be given the following objectives upon hire:

  • Within 3 months, demonstrate ability to follow all safety protocols and complete tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Additionally, demonstrate ability to take direction and communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Within 6 months, demonstrate ability to perform wastewater and potable water welding and fabrication tasks. Addi-tionally, demonstrate proficiency with operating the Maintenance shop overhead bridge crane.
  • Within 9 months, demonstrate familiarity and navigation of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to include creating, updating and closing work orders. Additionally, demonstrate effective customer service interaction and workload management.
  • Within 12 months, demonstrate proficiency in using the US Bank portal to reconcile monthly credit card charges.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the (12th) grade supplemented by specialized training in welding and fabricating.
  • Has three (3) years of experience performing welding duties in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Possesses a valid California Class C driver’s license, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possesses a valid A.W.S. D-1.1 Welding Certification.
  • Possesses a valid ASME Sec. 9 Certification for pipe welding.
  • Understands the methods, safety protocols, techniques, hand & power tools, equipment, and supplies used in the welding and fabrication of domestic, reclaimed, and agricultural water and wastewater utility infrastructure, pipelines, and process equipment.
  • Has knowledge of metallurgy and mathematical principles applicable to welding trades; welding properties of various metals and alloys.
  • Understands operational and safety characteristics of a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Can apply the principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Will provide a high level of customer service to vendors, contractors and District staff.
  • Is knowledgeable of modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and programs, projects and task coordination, including computer and software programs relevant to the work performed.
