The Oceanside Water Utilities Department is an innovative and forward-looking organization whose goal it is to ensure ongoing access to safe & affordable drinking water, reliable wastewater collection & treatment services, and environmental sustainability by maintaining top talent, resource resiliency, dependability, and system efficiency.
The City of Oceanside is accepting applications for the position of Water Utilities Plant Electrician I in the Electrical and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Division of the Water Utilities Department. This division oversees the maintenance and repair of all water utilities electrical systems.
About Our System
The Oceanside Water Utilities Department owns and operates:
• 2 wastewater treatment plants
• 1 water treatment plant
• 1 recycled water treatment plant
• 1 advanced water purification facility – Pure Water Oceanside!
• 1 groundwater purification facility
• 12 water reservoirs
• Dozens of booster pump stations and 32 lift stations
• Hundreds of miles of water and wastewater pipelines
About the position
This position requires a foundation of electrical experience, including demonstrated live-work skills, preferably above 240V. Water Utilities Plant Electrician career path where you will refine your skills as an electrician and develop skills in motor control and a comprehensive understanding of water and wastewater system. The role provides opportunities to expand knowledge of water and wastewater electrical systems, while applying practical field experience and the ability to work independently on core electrical tasks.

Who we are looking for…
The Water Utilities Electrical and SCADA Division is seeking a skilled electrician with proven hands-on experience, confident working on live systems from 120V up to 480V, motivated to develop a rewarding career in the water and wastewater industry.
Experience and Training
Experience: Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic systems in a water or wastewater treatment plant; or in an industrial environment performing installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic systems.
Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and completion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship program, or equivalent combination of college level courses in electrical, electronic engineering or a related field.
License/Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
- State of California General Electrician Certification.
Possession of the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Electrical/Instrumentation Grade II Certificate within thirty-six (36) months of hire date.
