The Opportunity:

Contra Costa Water District’s Operations & Maintenance department is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Water Treatment Superintendent.  What you will typically be responsible for: 

• Building and maintaining positive working relationships with employees and key stakeholders. 
• Supervising and mentoring two direct supervisors, supporting professional operator development, and promoting a culture of safety, inclusion, accountability, and shared responsibility. 
• Serve as a key cross-departmental liaison partnering with Engineering, Maintenance, Water Quality, Planning and executive leadership to ensure aligned operations and coordinated decision-making. 
• Coordinating operational and water quality communication with wholesale and retail partners to maintain strong interagency relationships, transparency, reliability, and public confidence.
• Overseeing regulatory compliance, state reporting, and agency coordination to ensure compliance with all drinking water requirements. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Training: Equivalent to an associate degree with coursework in chemistry, biology, engineering, or related field.

Experience: Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience operating a surface water treatment plant including two (2) years of supervisory or management experience.

Licenses and Certifications:  

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license to be maintained throughout employment.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Grade T5 Water Treatment Operator certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
• Ability to obtain, and maintain possession of, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate.
