Water Treatment Plant Operations Intern

 

$20.00 per hour ● Part-time/At-Will/No Benefits

 

WHAT’S THE ROLE? The Water Facilities Authority is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist its certified water treatment operators staff in the day-to-day operations of the agency’s 81-million gallons per day Agua de Lejos Water Treatment Plant. This role will provide hands-on experience assisting with the operation and maintenance of the treatment plant, distribution system, and essential equipment, including but not limited to pipes, pumps, valves, filters, chemical feeders, telemetry equipment, alarms, recorders, pump controls, and storage facilities.

 

The Intern position will provide valuable on-the-job learning experience for a highly motivated individual who seeks a career in the water industry. The person must be dependable, responsible, diligent, and work well with others! 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

·        Strong interest to pursue a career in the water industry

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·        The ability to establish effective working relationships with coworkers.

·        Experience with computers and related software.

·        Enrolled or has completed water industry-related courses

·        State of California Water Distribution Operator D1 Certification (desirable)

·        State of California Treatment Water Treatment Operator T1 Certification (desirable)

·        Possession of and continuously throughout employment, a valid CA Driver’s License with a good driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary to bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist when performing repair or maintenance of equipment; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; and lift or carry weight of 50 pounds or less. Work is also normally performed in a plant environment subject to noise created by machinery.
