The Public Works Department plays a key role in maintaining and improving the City’s infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors. The department oversees streets, traffic systems, landscaping, lighting, water, sewer, and storm drains, as well as City-owned facilities and vehicle fleets. Public Works also provides engineering, environmental compliance, and inspection services, manages capital improvement projects and recycling programs, and administers the City’s solid waste franchise. Duties/Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
As our new Water Treatment Lead Operator, you will:
- Train and lead staff in the repair and maintenance of automatic control systems, liquid level controls, automatic pumps; control, check, globe, and gate valves; oil and air filters; fuses, circuit breakers, probes, relays, time delays, coils, switches, bearings, packings, mechanical seals, oil lines, droppers, and gauges.
- Monitor and maintain the telemetry system at the City yard and all water treatment plants, pumps, wells, and reservoirs.
- Perform preventative maintenance on pumps and related equipment; checking pumping operations, buildings, and treatment facilities.
- Maintain written records of work being done and resources utilized; review coding on invoices and recommend approval for payment; write letters detailing deficiencies in work completed by contractor.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has knowledge of procedures and equipment used in the operation of domestic wells, motors, pumps, compressors, electrical panels, and control valves.
- Understands and is familiar with chlorination and domestic water sampling techniques and practices.
- Is excited by challenges, loves to learn, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. (required).
Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a Water Treatment Operator or equivalent, with experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water treatment facilities, motors, pumps, wells, and related equipment.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid Class C Commercial California Driver’s License with HazMat endorsement, within one year from date of appointment, to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of a valid Grade T-3 Water Treatment Operator certificate from the State Water Resources Control Board.
- Possession of a valid Grade D-2 Water Treatment Operator certificate from the State Water Resources Control Board.
- Special Requirements
- Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Mobility to work in the field and to perform medium to heavy physical work. Operate a motor vehicle and visit various community sites.
- Vision to inspect and operate equipment.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
- The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.
