Water System Operator I/II
The Water System Operator I is the entry level classification. Daily supervision will be done by the Water System Operator II/III and/or Water System Supervisor. The incumbent shall perform routine tasks and duties and must be familiar with the proper use of hand tools and have some knowledge of skilled crafts. In the course of daily duties, incumbents are expected to increasingly become more knowledgeable that will lead to full proficiency in one or more areas: construction and maintenance of pipelines, water services, fire hydrants, meters, pumps, motors, water plant facilities, and associated appurtenances. This shall include overall water system operation utilizing SCADA control systems at a basic level and participating in the Standby (On Call) rotation schedule after successfully passing the probation period.
The Water System Operator II is the journey level classification. The incumbent shall be expected to perform a broad range of tasks and duties, assess and prioritize work to be done. The incumbent shall have a level of experience in the following: Performs in the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance, of water distributions mains, water services, fire hydrants, meters, disinfection equipment, and associated appurtenances. Ensure proper use of safety equipment and wears protective apparel which includes subordinate personnel. Sets up and removes traffic control and directs traffic at work sites. Performs required main shutdowns, has the ability to utilize hand and power tools and machinery. Conducts on-site inspection of water facilities, makes minor repairs to said facilities. Operation of motorized (Commercial/Non-Commercial) vehicles, and related equipment, tools, methods, and techniques is preferred. Provide oversight of water system utilizing SCADA system, participate in the Standby (On Call) rotation schedule. Perform field water quality sampling, understand the use of computers, and have the ability to exercise computer skills relevant to the position.
REQUIREMENTS
- Work Hours/Days: M-F 8 hours per day, or 4-day work schedule 10 hours per day
- Education: Graduation from an accredited high school, equivalent school, or GED certificate
- Must have and maintain a valid Class C driver’s license issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles at time of hire. Within 9 months of hire date, must have and maintain a Class A or B driver’s license with air brake endorsement issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles, employer will cover related costs.
Water System Operator I required
- Must have and maintain a valid Grade 1 Water Distribution Operators license issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board, and/or AWWA/ ITCA at time of hire.
- Grade 1 Water Treatment Operators license issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board and/or ITCA at time of hire or able to acquire a Grade 1 Water Treatment license within 12 months
- Annual Salary Range: $69,326.40-$75,462.40
Water System Operator II Required
- 2-3 years of water industry experience
- Must have and maintain a valid Grade 2 Water Distribution Operators license issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board, or AWWA/ ITCA at time of hire.
- Must have and maintain a valid Grade 1 Water Treatment Operators license issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board and/or ITCA at time of hire and able to acquire Grade 2 Water Treatment license issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board, or AWWA/ITCA within 12 months of hire.
- Annual Salary Range: $77,438.40- $84,281.60
