Salary Effective 7/4/2026: $4,905 – $6,360 Monthly
The City of Buena Park is recruiting for highly motivated individuals to join the Public Works Water Division. This Division operates over 220 miles of water mains and sewer mains, and owns and operates eight water wells. We are seeking for an individual who has the motivation and willingness to grow in the Division. The ideal candidate will have mechanical aptitude, critical thinking skills, general knowledge of tools and equipment, clear understanding of work safety practices, desire to learn new skills, and readiness for the responsibility to utilize and maintain high tech equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the class.
1. Reads residential, commercial, and construction site water meters.
2. Assists in the installation and repair of water meters and clears meter areas of excess water, weeds, and debris.
3. Turns water valves on and off and assists in the flushing of water mains.
4. Assists in locating, repairing, and servicing water lines or valves.
5. Answers basic inquiries from customers regarding water pressure, water quality, and service procedures.
6. Makes minor plumbing repairs.
7. Inspects fencing and lighting systems.
8. Completes basic work records.
9. May operate front-end loader and backhoe for training purposes under supervisory direction.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
High School graduation or G.E.D. equivalent is required, preferably supplemented by coursework and vocational training in either water treatment or water distribution. Six months of experience involving unskilled or semi-skilled street construction and maintenance, or water service maintenance and repair, and customer service is required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
California Department of Public Health Water Distribution Operator D-1 certification is required within one year of appointment to this position.
Valid Class C California driver license, acceptable driving record, and evidence of insurance are required.
Depending upon position assignment, a valid Class B California driver license may be required, including Medical Certification and Water Tanker endorsement.
May be required to work different shifts and respond to emergency calls during non-regularly scheduled work hours, including nights and weekends.
