The ideal candidate for the Water Reclamation Plant Operator III position will be an individual who has training and experience in wastewater treatment processes, demonstrating the ability to identify and resolve operational issues while making recommendations for improvements. The ideal candidate should be able to interpret lab data and analyze SCADA trends to implement process changes and suggestions to the Water Reclamation Supervisor, along with the capability to perform minor maintenance tasks. The candidate should be a team player who can work independently on weekends and be available for on-call and after-hours situations. The candidate should hold a Grade III Wastewater Plant Operator Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.

The Water Reclamation Plant Operator III is the full journey-level classification in the Water Reclamation Plant Operator series. Operators in this position are responsible for independently performing the full range of complex water reclamation plant operations duties, including making process and control changes without supervision. In addition, incumbents may provide instruction, guidance, and assistance to lower-level Water Reclamation Plant Operators, as well as to water reclamation systems and plant mechanics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Water Reclamation Plant Operator III

Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work or trade school training in wastewater treatment technology.

Experience: Three years of experience in the operation of water reclamation plant facilities, equipment, and systems including two years of experience comparable to a Water Reclamation Plant Operator II with the City of Camarillo.

License or Certificate: Possession of a Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board. Possession of a valid California driver’s license at a level appropriate to the equipment operated.
