in the role of Water Quality Technician 

We are looking for a detail-oriented and organized individual to support water quality sampling, data analysis, and management. This role involves monitoring wells, interpreting laboratory results, and maintaining accurate records for water treatment, quality control, and distribution. You will also play a key role in updating and managing the Water Quality Master Log, assisting with borehole and well permitting, and supporting water supply and demand tracking. Experience with water quality data systems and knowledge of permit applications is essential for success in this position.

Minimum Qualifications

       Experience:

  • Two years of increasingly responsible experience in a water quality environment including experience in water sampling and computerized data management of devices and tests.

AND

 

Training:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher-level degree.

License or Certificate

  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.
  • Possession of a California Department of Drinking Water Distribution Operator Grade 2 (D2) certificate issued within one year of appointment.
  • Possession of any mandated regulatory certifications for water quality certifications required by regulatory agencies and the City within 18 months of notification.

SELECTION PROCESS

All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a Formula Rate Examination. The applicant’s experience and education will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the Employment List. Supplemental questions will be utilized by the department hiring authority to make interview and selection determinations. 

Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City-paid fingerprint check, and depending on the position applied for, a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol screening test, credit check, license and/or education verification, psychological examination, and/or an extensive Police Department background check process.
