Water Pipeline Design Engineer (Assistant/Associate/Engineer, DOQ)

Rainbow Municipal Water District is hiring a Pipeline Design Engineer to support our pipeline replacement program covering pipeline replacements, large wastewater projects, and pump station upgrades. You’ll work in AutoCAD Civil 3D, run hydraulic models, and build a pipeline of shovel-ready capital projects — then work directly with the construction crew once it’s active. 

Over the next three years, we’re phasing in a dedicated in-house construction crew for our capital improvement projects. We’re hiring the design engineer first, so you can fill a pipeline of “shovel-ready” projects for the crew to install. 

We’re a small, agile agency serving northern San Diego County. We move fast — our team took three pump stations from bid to built in under 10 months — and we need someone who can keep that pace. 

This job is intentionally designed for growth. We are open to hiring at any of these levels. The most important thing is that you love the craft of hands-on design work and want to be involved in the full CIP project lifecycle. 

• Assistant Engineer ($115,289–$161,405): BS in Civil/Mechanical Engineering required; EIT preferred. 

• Associate Engineer ($126,818–$177,545): 2–5 years water utility design experience; EIT required; CA PE preferred. 

• Engineer ($139,500–$195,300): 5+ years water utility design experience; active CA PE required.
