JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of a Water Distribution Operator III or Water Distribution Operator II, assists with the installation, repair and maintenance of the company’s distribution system.
JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for a variety of tasks and duties which may include, but would not be limited to, the following:
- Assist with installation and repair of water mains, fire hydrants, valves and services.
- Perform meter exchanges and minor meter repairs.
- Flush fire hydrants for water quality control.
- Assist with inspection and operation of gate valves.
- Maintain excavations until permanent paving repairs can be made.
- Install, relocate and adjust meter boxes and valve cans.
- Subject to 24-hour on-call status.
- Other tasks and duties as directed
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Skills, knowledge and physical requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Some knowledge of basic plumbing repair and installation.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools associated with plumbing repair and installation.
- Some knowledge of pneumatic equipment, including jackhammers and tampers.
- Ability to dig and work at depths in excess of 5 feet.
- Ability to lift 100 lbs. to waist level and maneuver equipment and implements weighing in excess of 150 lbs.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical activities, including sit, stand, walk, reach, grasp, push, pull, bend, stoop, climb, crouch, squat, crawl, and twist and dig.
- Familiarity with safety practices and procedures.
- Must be dependable, punctual and have good attendance.
- Neat and presentable appearance.
- Ability to interact with co-workers and supervisors in a cooperative and professional manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and write legibly.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
The following are required:
- High school diploma.
- Valid California driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator certificate or obtain one within 18 months after employment.
