Job Description:

 

The Temporary Water System Maintenance Worker (TWSMW) assists with maintenance operations throughout the distribution system. This includes hydrant maintenance and inspection, fire service inspection, valve maintenance, meter routine exchanges/repair, and station inspections. Other duties may include reading commercial and/or residential meters. This position is located in West Lake Village, CA.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

• Perform hydrant inspections and maintenance as needed

 

• Perform maintenance on main line valves

 

• Exchange/repair meters throughout the distribution system

 

• Investigate customer inquiries regarding high bills and water quality issues

 

• Diagnose high/low pressure concerns; notify appropriate personnel when needed for repairs or further diagnostics; dirty water, hi/low pressure, no water, taste and odor, air

 

• Take corrective action based on findings

 

• Collect water samples throughout the distribution system as needed

 

• Verify status of existing fire services and read detector meter

 

• Flush mains to a minor extent

 

• Understand cross connections

 

• Other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent

 

• Must be able to effectively communicate with their supervisor, co-workers, and the public

 

• Ability to perform basic mathematic functions to calculate figures

 

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and ability to write routine reports and correspondence

 

• Valid California Class C Driver’s license

 

• Must have a working knowledge of basic features of word processing programs (e.g., Microsoft Word) and electronic mail processing programs (e.g., Microsoft Outlook)

 

• Water Distribution Grade 1 or higher preferred

 

Salary Range: $29.85 – $36.35
