Systems Operator - Valve Technician
Padre Dam Municipal Water District is seeking a skilled and motivated Systems Operator/Technician to join our Valve Crew to help keep our vital water systems running safely and efficiently. In this hands-on role, you’ll monitor and maintain potable and recycled water distribution systems and the wastewater collection system. You will perform preventive maintenance on pumps and valves and respond to emergencies that protect our community’s water supply. Successful candidates will be invited to written skills testing early June with interviews being held mid-June 2026.
This position is eligible for appointment within the following Salary Grades:
o Salary Grade 22 – $36.81 – $52.06
o Salary Grade 24 – $39.71 – $56.17
o Salary Grade 26 – $42.35 – $59.91
Future Salary Increase: June 2026 – 3.25% to base pay
The Position:
This position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining potable and recycled water distribution systems, the wastewater collection system, regulatory compliance, and provide reliable service to our customers. The role performs valve and equipment maintenance, system flushing, reservoir isolation and cleaning, and uses GIS tools to support system operations. Systems Operators will respond to emergencies such as water main breaks, coordinate with contractors and engineering staff, and maintain accurate operational records while supporting water quality and environmental compliance programs.

Knowledge, Skills, Training, Experience & Licensing:
Training/Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.); and,
- One year of related basic repair and maintenance experience; OR
- Two years’ experience in installing and repairing pumps, motors and related systems OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements:
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- California State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade D2 is required for Grade 22.
- California State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade D3 is required for Grade 24.
- California State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade D4 is required for Grade 26.
- Plant Maintenance Mechanical Technologist Grade II certificate from the CWEA is desirable.
California State Water Resources Control Board Water Treatment Operator Grade T1 certificate is desirable.
