The Senior Maintenance Worker is the lead class responsible for assigning and overseeing crews involved in the maintenance of streets, rights-of-way, traffic control, grounds and facilities, water or wastewater divisions; provides a regular preventive maintenance program for assigned areas. This classification is distinguished from the next lower classification of Maintenance Worker by the performance of the lead responsibilities and more difficult and complex tasks of the work group.

Education and/or Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Senior Maintenance Worker. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of three (3) years of directly related maintenance experience, and a High School diploma or GED.

License/Certificate:

  • Possession of a valid Class “A” California driver’s license within one (1) year of appointment.

When Assigned to Water:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Grade 3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate, per the State of California, Department of Health Services, within one (1) year of appointment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Grade 1 Water Treatment Operator Certificate, per the State of California, Department of Health Services, within one (1) year of appointment.
