Senior Engineer / Senior Project Coordinator

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer / Senior Project Coordinator to lead critical development and capital improvement projects for water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure. In this leadership role, you will oversee project planning, design, construction, inspection, and close-out, while guiding staff, managing workflows, and ensuring quality and timelines are met. JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Senior Engineer – Under general direction, leads, oversees, reviews, and participates in the work of staff and consultants performing professional engineering work related to development and capital improvement engineering project oversight for water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure; manages development and capital improvement projects through all aspects of planning, design, construction, inspection, observation, and project close-out; and performs related duties as assigned.
- Leads, oversees, reviews, and participates in the work of staff and consultants performing development and capital improvement engineering project oversight for water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure; assumes responsibility for the workflow of an assigned work unit by making work assignments, ensuring work is consistent with quality standards, and timeline expectations are met.
- Performs the more complex work assignments for the classification series for which there are little or no directly related policies, procedures, or past practices that require the exercise of independent judgment and discretion in establishing work plans, identifying resources, and completing assignments.
- Provides input for personnel decisions such as performance evaluations, promotions, hiring, and disciplinary actions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Senior Engineer – Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in professional engineering design, plan review, and project administration.
- Senior Project Coordinator – Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction project management and project administration.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of, or successful acquisition within twelve (12) months of appointment, CPR / First Aid/ AED certification, to be maintained throughout employment.
Senior Engineer
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of valid registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of California, to be maintained throughout employment.
Senior Project Coordinator
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of valid certification as a Certified Associate Construction Manager (CACM) by the Construction Management Association of America or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) by the Project Management Institute.
