The San Diego County Water Authority is seeking an experienced, solutions-driven Senior Engineer to join our Design Services Group in the Engineering Department. In this leadership role, you will oversee the design and delivery of major water infrastructure projects, manage contracts, and guide a team of talented engineers—helping to ensure a safe and reliable water supply for 3.3 million residents and a $268B regional economy.

 What You’ll Do

  • Serve as Project Manager and technical lead for complex capital improvement and maintenance projects.
  • Oversee all phases of engineering design—from concept through bid-ready plans and specifications.
  • Manage consultant contracts, budgets, schedules, and project controls.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise professional engineering staff.
  • Review and approve final engineering designs as the Engineer of Record.
  • Coordinate closely with internal teams, contractors, and member agencies to resolve technical challenges.
  • Represent the Water Authority at meetings, public hearings, and with regulatory agencies.

Ideal Candidate

You are a licensed California Professional Engineer with:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of professional engineering experience, including public water/utility design, construction, and project scheduling.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or lead experience.
  • Proven success delivering complex projects, managing contracts, and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
