Public Affairs Supervisor
Under general direction, plans, schedules, assigns, reviews, supervises, and participates in the work of staff performing public outreach and conservation programs, initiatives, and administrative activities within the Public Affairs Department; coordinates projects and activities with other District departments and outside agencies; assists with government affairs programs and projects; provides highly responsible staff assistance to the Government and Public Affairs Director in areas of expertise; and performs related duties as assigned.
- Plans, schedules, assigns, reviews, supervises, and participates in the work of staff in the Public Outreach and Conservation Divisions within the Public Affairs Department; trains staff in work procedures and safe work practices; evaluates employee performance, counsels employees, and effectively recommends initial disciplinary action; assists in selection and promotion.
- Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, work plans, policies, and priorities for the division; recommends within division policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; recommends and administers policies and procedures.
- Develops, administers, and oversees program and division budgets; determines funding, needed equipment, materials, and supplies; conducts studies to forecast spending and cost benefits for assigned special projects and potential services; monitors expenditures and submits invoices for supplies and equipment; ensures compliance with budgeted funding.
- Monitors activities of the Public Outreach and Conservation Division work unit; identifies opportunities for improving service delivery and procedures; provides recommendations concerning process changes; reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, political science, communications, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in customer service, public agency programs, water use and conservation programs, communications, government affairs, and/or related experience.
