Principal Water Resources Specialist
The Principal Water Resources Specialist at the San Diego County Water Authority leads a team of two professional staff. This position plays a key role in advancing the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) Program’s mission by producing reports, data analyses, and other strategic materials that inform decision-making. As a solutions-oriented think tank, the MWD Program values creativity, resourcefulness, and credibility, grounding its recommendations in facts and sound analysis.
The ideal candidate will possess strong research skills, analytical and critical thinking abilities, and excellent written and verbal communication. They should be proficient in applying deductive reasoning to drive outcomes and demonstrate a high level of precision, judgment, and discretion in their work. This position requires a collaborative mindset and the ability to navigate complex political and organizational dynamics. Maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is essential. A strong understanding of water rights, water accounting practices, and project management is highly desirable.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in natural science, physical science, environmental engineering, civil engineering, economics, natural resources management, urban planning, regional planning, public administration, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in water resource planning or implementation.
- Demonstrated expertise in water supply forecasting, regional planning, and water policy development.
- Proven leadership and project management skills.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
