THE POSITION:

Plant Mechanic incumbents independently perform skilled mechanical maintenance and repair work on a wide range of equipment and systems, including pumps, motors, valves, compressors, piping, and other machinery used in water treatment and distribution facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in skilled mechanical maintenance repair work in a water or wastewater treatment or industrial setting. Completion of an apprenticeship in a related field, such as machinist, electrician or electronics technician, may be substituted for not more than one year of the required experience.

AND

License:

Possession of a valid California Driver’s License

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate has experience with a proven track record of success that demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:

  • Performing skilled mechanical installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair work on a wide variety of equipment typical to a water treatment plant and distribution system.
  • Observation of safe work methods and safety precautions typical to water treatment plant materials, tools and equipment.
  • Agility, strength and endurance to install, diagnose, repair and maintain a wide variety of mechanical equipment and operate various hand, power and shop tools.
  • Working in a variety of conditions, including in exposure to potentially hazardous materials, in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions.
