Job Overview
Reporting directly to Project Manager, the Operations Specialist has full responsibility for the successful operation of their assigned facility(s). The Operations Specialist supports the day-to-day functions of the water treatment and distribution facility by assisting with system monitoring, routine evaluations, and operational adjustments. This role helps ensure reliable service, regulatory compliance, and safe work practices while providing general support for maintenance, reporting, and process improvement activities. The position requires adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of operational performance.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Successful operation & maintenance of the water treatment/distribution system.
· Sustain adequate communication with the Project Manager.
· Upkeep of regulatory records and process data
· Prepare and submit regulatory reports
- Participates in the work with one or more water operators engaged in the reactive maintenance, preventive maintenance, and proactive maintenance of the
water production system and water treatment facility.
- Assist the PM to establish daily work schedules
- Troubleshoot process abnormalities and/or failures
- Perform essential operator duties to include; weekly and monthly water quality sampling, monitoring operation of the wells, chemicals, and equipment associated with water treatment, analyzing booster stations, and assessing reservoirs. Participates in a rotational on-call schedule if needed.
- Creating efficient working relationships & problem solving between the Water Department field staff and customer service
- Analyze lab tests to ensure permit compliance
- Use a variety of power and hand tools to perform a variety of related tasks
- Assist with the planning of a hydrant flushing and valve turning program
- Communicate any problems/issues to Project Manager
- Promote and adhere to PERC’s written corporate Safety program
- All other tasks as assigned by Project Manager
- Uphold acceptable attendance per PERC standards
- Ensure all sites are maintained properly
- Ensure housekeeping for a safe workplace
- Ensure weed abatement is regularly performed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
• General computer skills include good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to learn CMMS program used on site.
• Excellent team-working and communications skills to enable effective interaction with other PERC Water personnel, including peers. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Physical capabilities
• Body Positions: Standing, sitting for extended periods of time, walking.
• Body Movements: Use of hands, eyes, ears, arms and voice. Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
• Must be able to climb up and down stairs and ladders and climb into process tanks and enclosures
• Must be able to climb on, or into facility equipment and systems (Confined Space Training required).
• Must be able to work weekends, nights or holidays as needed.
• On call availability as scheduled
• Must be able to travel from jobsite to jobsite within in the area
• Mental capabilities
• Language ability includes reading, writing, spelling, and the ability to communicate clearly on business topics in English.
Education, Professional Credentials and Experience Required
• Minimum of a California D1 or T1 license required
• Minimum 4 years of previous experience in a water department. Supervisory experience is a plus
• Valid California driver’s license required
• Degree a plus but not required
Work Conditions
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, including treatment plant facilities, control room, pump stations, distribution sites, and field locations. Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, humidity) is expected.
