SALARY $207,480.00 – $252,096.00 / Yearly (Effective 6/22/2025, salary range will increase to $219,939.20 – $267,217.60 / Yearly)

The Manager of Engineering position offers the opportunity to inform strategic decisions and lead transformative projects that will enhance Zone 7’s long-term water supply and operational reliability and improve the Tri-Valley’s flood protection system, including:

  • Chain of Lakes Conveyance System – $150M local conveyance and water supply storage project.
  • Flood Management Program – $200M program plan to fund and implement flood protection improvements to reduce flooding under changing hydrology.
  • Mocho PFAS Treatment Plant – A new ~16 MGD treatment plant using progressive design-build delivery.
  • Regional Wells Project – Design and construction of major new wells and pipelines in partnership with the City of Pleasanton.

Under the direction of the Assistant General Manager of Engineering, Operations and Maintenance, this position plans, organizes, directs and reviews the activities and operations of Engineering Services, including planning, design and construction of flood control, water treatment, transmission, storage, and distribution facilities and related technical support activities.

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: The equivalent of 5 years of full-time, progressively responsible engineering experience, including project management and significant responsibility for the supervision of a group of engineers and support personnel in a water utility.

Experience must have included the design and construction of facilities normally required of water utility such as pipelines, pumping plants, tanks and water treatment facilities, and extensive public interaction.

AND

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.

A master’s degree in civil engineering or business or public administration is highly desirable.

 

LICENSING and CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
  • Valid California Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer OR a Professional Geologist issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors

 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing and able to work in areas where there is exposure to chemical, mechanical and electrical hazards, and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • May be required to respond to off-hour emergencies
