THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) is seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Supervisor to oversee comprehensive maintenance and repair programs for our treatment plants, recycled water facilities, and essential mechanical systems. In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure our equipment, facilities, and operations meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

As a leader in our Maintenance Unit, you will guide a team of skilled mechanics and technicians, set priorities for preventative and predictive maintenance, and oversee repairs that keep our facilities performing at their best. Your mechanical expertise will be vital in diagnosing issues, implementing solutions, and ensuring all work meets rigorous safety, compliance, and performance standards. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is from high school or G.E.D equivalent supplemented with college course work in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, marine engineering, facilities engineering, chemical engineering, or related fields; and three years of journey-level wastewater/water experience in the operation and maintenance of plant equipment including two years of supervisory or lead responsibilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. College-level or advanced technical training in equipment/facilities maintenance or related field is highly desirable.

 

LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A valid Class “C” California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency’s vehicle insurance program.

Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT) is desirable.

Lube Oil Analysis training or certification is desirable.

Vibration Analysis training or certification is desirable.

Infrared training or certification is desirable.

Ultrasonic training or certification is desirable.

Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) Certification is highly desirable.

California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist Grade 4 is desirable.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to collaborate across departments and with contractors to coordinate maintenance activities, schedule repairs, and ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work with operational needs.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of skilled maintenance personnel, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance.
  • Skilled in setting clear priorities, delegating tasks effectively, and ensuring timely completion of preventative and corrective maintenance work.
  • Ability to apply strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose mechanical and system issues, assess operational risks, and implement cost-effective solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

The Inland Empire Utilities Agency is a regional wastewater treatment agency and wholesale distributor of imported water to approximately 935,000 people across 242-square miles in western San Bernardino County. Under the leadership of a directly elected five-member Board of Directors, the Agency is committed to supporting the needs of its service area and safeguarding public health through significant investments in a diverse water supply portfolio, reliable municipal/industrial wastewater collection and treatment services, and other related utility services in a regionally planned and cost-effective manner. 

As a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan), IEUA provides supplemental water supplies, primarily via the State Water Project (SWP) for distribution among nine retail agencies. IEUA also replenishes local groundwater supplies with captured stormwater and recycled water produced by IEUA that is later extracted by local water agencies for use as a drinking water supply.

SELECTION PROCESS::

This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) vacancy and will establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur during the active status of the eligibility list.

Salary Range: SU 185

FLSA: Exempt

Probationary Period: 12 months
