WESA is seeking the ideal candidate to plan, organizes, oversee, coordinate, and manage the staff and operations of the District Maintenance Division, including the preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical and facilities and appurtenances related to water and wastewater systems; oversees fleet and equipment procurement and maintenance programs; manages the effective use of resources to improve organizational productivity and customer service; provides complex and responsible support to the Director of Operations in areas of expertise.

 Immediate Impact: The successful candidate will be given the following objectives upon hire:

  • ·Within the first 3 months, become familiar with all core functional areas including contracts, programs and personnel. Learn about the current Asset Management program and provide close oversight to ensure continued utilization and accuracy.
  • Within the first 6 months, demonstrate a strong understanding of District operations and projects, as well as establish professional and trusting relationships with all coworkers
  • Within the first 9 months, demonstrate a positive impact on the culture in the Maintenance Division through strong productivity, organization, positive morale and technical competence. Indicate strong self-management and emotional intelligence through challenging or high pressure situations.
  • ·Within the first 12 months, the ability to carry out all job functions independently with accuracy and efficiency. Demonstrate a full technical understanding of all core functions. Be a strong leader and mentor to all staff in the Maintenance Division and a cooperative partner with all WESA staff.                        

 The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited collect or university with major coursework in public administration, construction technology, business management, or a related field.
  • Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in any utility-related maintenance, operations, and construction programs specific to water pumping and distribution systems, water/wastewater treatment plant maintenance, collection system/lift stations maintenance, water booster pump/well maintenance, mechanical equipment maintenance or municipal infrastructure construction, of which three (3) years should be in a management or supervisory capacity.
  • Combination of the following: CWEA certificate in Collection System Maintenance, Mechanical Technologist, Electrical & Instrumentation Technologist, and/or Advanced Water Treatment Operation. SWRCB certification for water treatment, water distribution, or wastewater treatment
  • A valid California Class C driver’s license, to be maintained throughout employment. 
  • Capable of creating and closely following structured maintenance plans.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with, along with good listening skills with a team focus.
  • Is an effective communicator, with the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of audiences.
  • Is efficient and organized, with the ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions and answer both customer and staff inquiries, all while maintaining a pleasant, professional demeanor
