Valley Water is seeking skilled and motivated Engineering Technicians to support stream, vegetation, and infrastructure maintenance across Santa Clara County. These positions help advance Valley Water’s mission to provide safe, clean water, natural flood protection, and environmental stewardship.
With a $964 million annual budget and more than 900 employees, Valley Water manages water supply, flood protection, and watershed enhancement programs while partnering with other agencies to preserve trails and open space for the community.
The Opportunities
Vegetation Field Operations Unit:
Provide technical and field support for vegetation management within Valley Water’s creeks, rivers, and dams. Duties include field inspections, data collection (plant species, site conditions, project limits), and reporting on vegetation control for flow conveyance, fuel reduction, and invasive species management. Use GIS, Maximo, and database tools to track maintenance, update maps, and assist with public inquiries through the Access Valley Water (AVW) system.
O&M Engineering Support Unit: Conduct field investigations and assessments along streams, levees, and maintenance roads. Collect GPS data, prepare maps and work orders, and support asset management and reporting. Respond to customer service requests, research site conditions, and assist with project planning.
Ideal Candidate
Successful candidates will have technical field or GIS experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong communication, organization, and computer skills (ArcGIS, GPS, or database software) are essential.
Engineering Technician I requires coursework (12 college semester units) in engineering, geography, math, or related fields. Engineering Technician II requires two (2) years of technical engineering support experience. Engineering Technician III requires four (4) years of technical engineering support experience.
A valid California driver’s license (or ability to obtain one) is required.
