Engineering Technician I/II
Engineering Technician I/II – $70,449.60 – $94,785.60/annually
The Engineering Technician I/II performs a variety of paraprofessional engineering office and field work in support of the design, construction and maintenance of District and partnership facilities. Typical assignments include surveying, drafting, mapping, real property interests, Underground Service Alert (USA) markings, and related activities. This position also provides technical support to Engineers, Operations staff, and the District Engineer.
Engineering Technician I – This is the entry-level classification in the Engineering Technician series. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks and are expected to progress to working under general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned responsibilities are learned.
Engineering Technician II – This is the journey-level classification in the series and is distinguished from the level I by the full range of assigned duties. Incumbents at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are normally filled by advancement from level I.
The ideal candidate is a motivated problem-solver who values accuracy and teamwork. For the entry-level Engineering Technician I, the District is seeking someone eager to learn and grow, with strong attention to detail and an interest in developing skills in surveying, drafting, and engineering support. For the journey-level Engineering Technician II, the District is seeking someone with proven experience in a broad range of engineering support functions who can work independently, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively.

Experience and Education
Engineering Technician I
· Experience: No work experience in this field is required.
· Education: Equivalent to completion of an Associate’s degree with course work in mathematics, drafting, AutoCAD, GIS, engineering or related field.
Engineering Technician II
· Experience: Three years’ work experience as an Engineering Technician I at Solano Irrigation District.
· Education: Equivalent to completion of an Associate’s degree with course work in mathematics, drafting, AutoCAD, GIS, engineering or related field.
Licenses and Certification
Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record to maintain insurability.
Benefits
Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs) –
– Effective for the first payroll in 2026, a 5% increase
Retirement – Solano Irrigation District participates in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).
– Classic CalPERS Members – benefits include equivalency of 2%@60 formula with the following provisions: final compensation is the monthly average of highest 36 consecutive months; and credit for unused sick leave. Employee pays 7% Employee Contribution.
– New CalPERS Members – benefits include equivalency of 2%@62 formula with the following provisions: three-year final compensation period used to calculate the average final compensation; and credit for unused sick leave. Employee pays 6.75% Employee Contribution.
Retiree Health Insurance – Employees are eligible for retiree health insurance benefits following 10 years of full-time service.
Deferred Compensation – 457 plan available, with Employer match up to $100 per pay period.
Health Insurance – Plans include Anthem Blue Cross HMO and PPO plans and a Kaiser Permanente plan. The District pays a portion of the premium for employee and dependent coverage.
Dental Insurance – Dental provider is Delta Dental. District pays full premium for both employee and dependents.
Vision Insurance – Vision provider is VSP. District pays full premium for both employee and dependents.
Life Insurance – Benefit is equal to 2x annual base salary rounded to the next higher $1,000, up to a maximum of $300,000. Premium is paid by the District.
Educational Assistance – District reimburses up to $1,500 per fiscal year for eligible expenses.
Flexible Spending Account – Tax deferred payments for dependent care, health care, and certain benefit premiums.
Modified Work Schedule – Eligible employees may have the option to adopt the 9/80 alternative work schedule upon mutual agreement between the employee and their supervisor.
Vacation and Sick Leave – Vacation is accrued bi-weekly at 80 hours per year during the first year. Employees accrue 12 days of sick leave per year, calculated bi-weekly.
Holidays – 11 scheduled holidays and 1 floating holiday per calendar year.
