Padre Dam Municipal Water District is seeking a skilled and motivated Engineering Technician to join our team. This position plays a key role in supporting the development of water and sewer infrastructure that serves our growing community. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical abilities, a commitment to excellent customer service, and a collaborative mindset. As part of our Development Services team, you will help ensure projects meet regulatory requirements, reflect sound engineering practices, and support responsible land development. This position is eligible for appointment within the following Salary Grades:

o   Salary Grade 20 – $35.33 – $49.97

o   Salary Grade 23 – $38.82 – $54.90

o   Salary Grade 25 – $41.43 – $58.66

o   Salary Grade 27 – $44.16 – $62.52

For Grade 27, the following Skills are applicable: 

1.     Reading and interpreting maps, easements documents, title reports; 

2.     Reviewing appraisal reports, escrow instructions, sales agreements, and lease agreements; 

3.     Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with property owners/potential lease holders regarding negotiations of ROW/easement acquisition and various lease agreements

Future Salary Increase: June 2026 – 3.25% to base pay

The Position:

The Engineering Technician is responsible for performing skilled design, drafting, and plan review work in support of Padre Dam’s public and private development projects. Key responsibilities include conducting plan checks for proposed improvements; designing and laying out water, sewer, and recycled water pipelines and appurtenances; and performing field reviews to verify project conditions. Additional duties include preparing project cost estimates, monitoring and managing project budgets, coordinating service order requests with other departments, and working closely with project stakeholders to support project design and successful project completion. The position also involves researching, updating, and maintaining planning and infrastructure data to ensure accurate and reliable project information.

Knowledge, Skills, Training, Experience & Licensing

1.     High school Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and Two years’ experience in civil engineering drafting and design at paraprofessional level using computer aided design and other drafting software; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the full job classification. 

 

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Business, or Public Administration.
