JOB DESCRIPTION

Under direct (Electrical & Instrumentation Technician I), to general (Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II and Electrical & Instrumentation Technician III) supervision, performs technical work related to installing, troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance, and repairing of metering, recording, data-logging, and control instrumentation including electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems as found in water treatment plants, wastewater collection system, water wells, pump stations, and other District related facilities; and performs related duties as assigned.

Electrical & Instrumentation Technician I

  • This is the entry-level classification in the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine maintenance and repair of electronic and pneumatic systems and equipment while learning District policies and procedures. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II-level but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.

Electrical & Instrumentation Technician II

  • This is the first working level in the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician I-level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned and exercising judgment and discretion in matters related to work procedures and methods. Positions at this level receive instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

Electrical & Instrumentation Technician III

  • This is the full journey-level classification in the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician series. Positions at this level regularly work on tasks which are varied and complex. Positions in the classification rely on experience and judgment to perform assigned duties. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to complete assignments. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. This class is distinguished from the Electrical & Instrumentation Crew Leader in that the latter is the lead level classification with responsibilities for the most difficult, complex, and varied work and lead direction of assigned staff.
