The Distribution Operator II is part of the Field Services team, assisting with pipeline construction, meter installation and repair, and general maintenance and repair of the District’s transmission and distribution pipelines, appurtenances, and pump station operation. This is a provisional appointment which may lead to a permanent appointment.

Duties Include:

·    Excavating mains and operating pneumatic tools.

·    Operating system valves resulting in shutting down mains for required repairs.

·    Complying with the California Department of Public Health Code of Regulations, Title 17 and Title 22.

·    Complying with various state and federal regulations including CalOSHA safety regulations, NPDES permit regulations and SWPPP regulations.

·    Identifying and repairing leaks.

·    Operating light equipment.

·    Assisting in the repair and installation of meters.

·    Using and operating hand tools, mechanical and power tools and other equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.

·    Setting up traffic control devices prior to the performance of street activities and directing and controlling traffic around work sites.

·    Performing emergency response duties in accordance with State regulations for Special Districts.

To be considered, candidates should be knowledgeable of general principles of water distribution systems and related facilities, methods, material, equipment, and tools used in the maintenance of structures, pipelines, mains, meters, valves and hydrants, and have an ability to independently operate and maintain field operations equipment and tools.

The qualifications include:

·      Graduation from high school or equivalent and one year of experience performing duties comparable to a Distribution Operator I.

·      Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s class C license.

·      Possession of a Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator Certificate from the State of California.

The salary range is $40.19 – $48.22, depending on qualifications. In addition, the District offers competitive benefits which include District contribution to CalPERS retirement, medical (100% of premium for most offered plans), dental and vision for employee and dependents; District paid life insurance; 12 paid days of sick leave; 12 paid holidays; and paid vacation depending on length of service. In addition, the District provides retiree health benefits with 50% of the premium paid with 10 years of service and an additional 5% with each year of service up to 100% with 20 years of service in CalPERS participating agencies.
