D1 Water Operator
This position requires a State of California Drinking Water D1 license and a California Driver’s License. Hours: 10-15 hours per week. Hourly rate: DOE
General:
The System Operator is to understand the TGW working system, such as the SCADA system, Pipelines, pumps, hydrants, valves, and meters. The system operator is to maintain, manage, and provide oversight of the Company’s water system. Duties will be executed using safe work practices, including PPE when appropriate, and documented according to TGW maintenance plans, schedules, procedures, and policies:
1) Operations & Maintenance
a) Review Maintenance plan & Project list weekly with General Manager for weekly assignments and perform duties such as but not limited to: Yard and distribution maintenance and repairs, Hydrant flushing, valve exercising, valve maintenance, generator maintenance, tank cleaning, weed abatement, construction, plumbing, and painting. Ensure monthly site inspections are filled out and reviewed. Ensure weekly safety sheets are reviewed and initialed. Ensure all logs and records are up to date. Organize operations paperwork.
2) Monitor System on SCADA
a) Make well-pumping adjustments as necessary to provide adequate water storage
b) Monitor and make booster pumping adjustments to provide adequate water storage
c) Answer SCADA Alert notifications
d) Inspect SCADA equipment as needed
3) Maintaining Chlorination Treatment System
a) Physically Inspect Chlorine tank treatment solution does not run out
b) Monitor chlorine residual on SCADA
c) Test water at port and record chlorine residuals
d) Adjust chemical metering pump to ensure adequate chlorine residual in system
e) Clean the chlorine tank and pump annually.
4) Water Production
a) Ensure weekly well reads are being taken and recorded, and review.
b) Assist in SAFER reporting.
5) Water Quality
a) Collect water quality samples for laboratory testing per SDWIS
b) Review test results, inform GM of any issues
c) Assist in preparing CCR annual report
6) Meters
a) Bimonthly meter reading
b) Charge and update Meter Reading device and website apps.
c) Meter installations, meter change outs and meter repairs including but not limited to corporation and curb stops, meter connections, and lateral repairs.
7) Customer/Member Support
a) Respond to Customer/Member requests, check answering service calls, complaints, and field assignments.
b) Inform members of system operation activities that might impact them
c) 2nd Past Due, 7-Day Shut-off Notice Deliveries.
d) Shut off water services as requested by GM or Member.
e) Locate the underground water mains and service lines to meet the requirements of Underground Service Alert (811), updated 811 website app.
8) Emergency Work
a) Optimize delivery of water to members to the maximum extent possible given the extent of the emergency, e.g., turning on generators, shutting off valves, providing secondary emergency water delivery, etc. Such duties will be carried out in accordance with TGW emergency procedures and protocols.
b) Perform on-call duty, call-back, and emergency work
c) Shut down water mains and tanks in emergencies
i. Use lockout/tagout procedures as necessary
d) Other related duties as they arise
9) Typical Physical Activities:
· Must be able to carry, push, pull, reach, and lift equipment and parts weighing up to 90lbs.
· Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb during field maintenance and repair work
· Work in an environment with exposure to dust, dirt, Chlorine, mud, water, humidity, and significant temperature changes between cold and heat.
· Stand and walk for extended time periods
· Hearing and vision within normal ranges
10) Ability to:
· Maintain and update system records and logs
· Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
· Read water meters
11) Knowledge of:
· Methods, materials, procedures, and equipment used in water distribution operations and maintenance work
· Laws, codes, rules, and regulations on water distribution system operation
· Methods and precautions for handling, transporting, and storing potentially hazardous chemicals.
· Standard water quality tests
· Operations and maintenance of pumping equipment
· Installation, maintenance, repair and testing of water meters
· Company policies and procedures related to customer services and customer relations
· Local street names, locations, and geography
· Proper work safety standards and Safe working practices and use of PPE
