THE POSITION
The ideal candidate for the position of Collection Systems Mechanic I/II will be a motivated and safety-conscious individual with experience in sewer system maintenance and operations. The candidate selected should possess a background in sewer main line cleaning, closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspection, and the operation and maintenance of wastewater pump stations. The ideal candidate should be proficient in operating specialized equipment, including combination vacuum/hydro trucks and CCTV inspection units used for assessing the condition of sewer infrastructure. Familiarity with GIS mapping systems, traffic control device setup, and performing confined space entries in compliance with safety regulations is essential. In addition to technical skills, it is desirable for the candidate to be capable of maintaining accurate maintenance records, responding to after-hours emergencies, including issues at treatment plants, and pump stations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Collection Systems Mechanic I
Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience: One year of maintenance and repair experience including experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver’s license and ability to obtain a California Class B driver’s license with tanker endorsement and air brake within six months of employment. Possession of a Grade I Collection System Maintenance certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association within two years of employment.
Collection Systems Mechanic II
Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized course work or training in the maintenance and repair of wastewater collection systems.
Experience: Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of wastewater collection systems comparable to a Collection Systems Mechanic I with the City of Camarillo.
License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license with tanker endorsement. Possession of a Grade I Collection System Maintenance certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association; possession of a Grade II Collection System Maintenance certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association within two years of employment. Possession of a Grade I Plant Maintenance Technologist certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association within two years of appointment to the “II” level.
