At the City of Mesa’s Water Resources Department, we love what we do. We have a passion for efficiently supplying safe and reliable drinking water to our city. We are looking for fresh eyes, possibly retooling some of the things we do, to operate in an even more sustainable way while delivering safe and clean drinking water. We believe in technology and innovation. We are looking for a Civil/Sr. Civil Engineer who is an independent thinker and doer to join our team of professional engineers. The City owns and operates three wastewater reclamation plants and two water treatment plants as well as 25 remote pump stations and over 30 groundwater wells.

In the Water Resources Department, Civil/Sr. Civil Engineers are assigned, based on the current need and the candidates skill set, to a combination of the three areas of responsibility listed below:

  • The Hydraulic Modeling Assignment’s primary duties are: keeping the water system hydraulic model and Water and Wastewater Master Plan updated, reviewing development submittals for compliance with the Master Plan and system requirements, analyzing operational alternatives and coordinating outages with operations and maintenance staff.
  • The Capital Improvement Projects Assignment oversees projects for the design and construction of the City’s water and wastewater systems and serve as a City representative on these projects. Additionally, the Engineer in the Water Resources Department assists in the program planning and project development of utility-related projects in the City’s five-year CIP.
  • The Asset Management Assignments primary responsibility will be to manage the asset management program for water utility facilities and infrastructure such as wells, pump stations, reservoirs, valves, and pipelines.

The Successful Candidate:

  • Needs to be able to direct the research and compilation of data necessary for the fulfilment of design objectives.
  • Needs to perform a full range of professional engineering tasks.
  • The successful candidate needs to use independent judgment and initiative in making technical decisions of considerable difficulty.
  • The successful candidate will also need to communicate with the public, other cities, state and federal employees.

Qualifications:

  • Registration as Professional Civil Engineer in the state of Arizona is required within six months of hire for the Senior Civil Engineer position.
  • Must possess a Valid Class D Arizona Driver’s license.

Hours & Compensation:

  • Full time (40 hr/wk, Mon – Thur)
