The East County Advanced Water Purification Program is seeking a motivated, safety-focused Electrician and Instrumentation Technician to join our team at our new state-of-the-art facility, where you’ll help keep advanced electrical and instrumentation systems operating at their best. This is an opportunity for a positive, team-oriented self-starter with strong troubleshooting skills and experience working on systems up to 12kV, who is flexible to support operations including nights, weekends, emergency response and overtime as needed.

 Successful Candidates will be invited to interview the last week of February.

 This position is eligible for appointment within the following Salary Grades:

 Salary Grade 18 – $32.73-$46.30

 Salary Grade 26 – $42.35-$59.91

 Salary Grade 28 – $44.66-$63.18

Future Salary Increase: June 2026 – 3.25% to base pay

 The Position:

Under the general supervision of the AWP Maintenance Supervisor, incumbents are responsible for performing skilled electrical/electronic installations, repairs and maintenance on the Advanced Water Purification (AWP) electrical and instrumentation infrastructure; tests, troubleshoots, calibrates, repairs and performs preventive/predictive/corrective maintenance on a variety of electrical, electronic, telecommunication and instrumentation systems, components and devices associated with the operation of large, state-of-the-art Advanced Water Purification Facilities, wastewater pump stations and remote dechlorination facilities; rebuilds equipment to manufacturer’s specifications, including motor controllers, analog and digital flow, temperature and pressure transmitters, data radios, metering control systems, valve actuators, digital modems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote terminal units (RTUs), emergency generators, devices and scientific instruments using operational performance standards, and standard and specialized testing equipment; corrects defects in instrumentation. Must be willing to work around medium voltage equipment, provide basic troubleshooting and offer remedies, and attend associated training on a frequency to be determined; maintain, repair and service fiber optic systems; support emergency response actions, and any other duties as assigned for the East County Advanced Water Purification (AWP) Joint Powers Authority (JPA).

Training/Experience Required:

1. High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), AND

2. Formal training in college, vocational school, or industry-recognized apprenticeship program, AND

3. State of California Electrical Apprenticeship Certificate, AND

4. 5 years of increased responsibility and experience in the maintenance, repair, rebuild, and service of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems found in the water/wastewater industry or closely related industry.

5. Medium voltage training/certifications preferred but not required.

Licensing Requirements:

1. Possession of a Valid California Driver’s License.

2. Current State of California General Electrician Certificate required to be eligible for grades 26 and 28.

3. CWEA Electrical & Instrumentation Technologist Certificate Grade 2 (within 18 months from date of hire).

4. CWEA Mechanical Technologist Certificate Grade I (within one year from date of hire).
