The Opportunity

CCWD is seeking an Assistant or Associate Engineer to join the Facilities Planning section of our Planning Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer who enjoys creative problem-solving, values collaboration, and is looking to expand their project management and leadership skills. This position may be filled at either level (Assistant or Associate), depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, and will be based at our Administrative Office in Concord, California.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working on facilities planning studies, including forecasting water demands and long-term water supply needs, identifying necessary water facility improvements, assessing impacts on CCWD facilities, and developing alternatives and recommendations relative to system improvements.
  • Upcoming studies the successful candidate may work on include the Building Facilities Comprehensive Plan and/or Renewal and Replacement Studies for untreated water facilities, untreated water reservoirs and distribution system pipelines.
  • Building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Performing project management duties for assigned projects, including management of the scope, budget, and schedule. 
  • Procuring consultant services and managing consultant contracts to successfully support CCWD projects.
  • Reviewing consultant deliverables (including technical reports, memos, and comprehensive plans) and leading review meetings with other CCWD staff to gather input and comments.
  • Preparing reports to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Serving as a technical resource to CCWD staff across all departments. Examples include supporting evaluations and studies; performing hydraulic modeling; participating in project reviews; and supporting efforts to implement and refine asset management practices. 
  • Providing project updates, such as written reports and in-person presentations to stakeholders and CCWD management.
  • Assisting with the preparation of CCWD’s Capital Improvement Program plan and budget.

Preferred skills

  • Experience contributing to planning studies, ideally related to water infrastructure and/or water supply, and/or experience with hydraulic modeling.
  • Proven track record of successfully completing projects with strong organizational and results-driven skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership abilities, with the capacity to collaborate across teams.

This position may be filled at the Assistant Engineeor Associate Engineer classification level, depending on the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and experience.
