Water Systems Superintendent

JOB DESCRIPTION
Under limited direction, strategically plans, organizes, supervises, and directs staff on a variety of water treatment, water system, facility, and related operations and maintenance work. Additional duties include:
- Participates in the development and implementation of operational goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; participates in the preparation and implementation of the District’s budget.
- Supervises the replacement of cost estimates for the repair, replacement, maintenance, and operations for all of the District’s water facilities, including but not limited to, water treatment plants, wells, booster stations, reservoirs, and equipment.
- Oversees the planning, organization, and coordination of water production and water treatment facilities and performs long-range planning activities.
- Works with District engineering and project staff and consulting engineers when needed regarding routine repair, replacement, operations, and maintenance work when applicable.
- Ensures compliance with laws, rules, or regulations related to water treatment and water production.
- Establishes performance requirements and personal development targets for personnel; regularly monitors performance and provides feedback for performance improvement and development.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
The right person for this role will possess the following credentials:
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental engineering, environmental sciences, public administration, or related field of study.
- Eight years of skilled, journey-level, technical experience in the operation of a water treatment plant and/or water distribution system, including at least three years of supervisory experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification from District-provided CPR/First Aid training is required.
- Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Grade V Water Distribution Operation certificate is required.
- Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Grade IV Water Treatment Operator certificate. Ability to obtain Grade V Water Treatment Operator certificate within two years of hire.
