JOB DESCRIPTION

Under supervision of the Water Systems Superintendent, supervises, plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs the operations and maintenance of the District’s water treatment plants, production system, and related appurtenances in compliance with state and federal requirements; performs related duties as assigned. Additional duties may include:

  • Ensures adherence to safety procedures and safe work practices; oversees and ensures crews carry out assigned duties and responsibilities with careful attention to District and all other applicable safety and traffic regulations.
  • Provides the training of assigned operations personnel in proper and safe operations.
  • Oversees blend programs, treatment operations, system production and demand, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Maintains processes at an optimal and cost-effective level; supervises programs, projects, and operational changes to meet these requirements.
  • Supervises, plans, prioritizes, assigns, and inspects the work of assigned staff responsible for District’s water treatment plants, production system, and related appurtenances; assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of long-term plans, goals, and objectives focused on achieving the assigned priorities.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership.
  • Corresponds and communicates with environmental/regulatory agencies regarding plant and production operations.
  • Research new operational methods, technologies, techniques, and equipment and recommend their application.
  • Maintains various records, logs, and reports; researches and prepares a variety of regular and special reports concerning plant and production operations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The right person for this role will possess the following credentials:

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school with extensive college course in related field.
  • Five years of skilled, leadership-level, technical experience in the operation of a water treatment plant or production system, including at least two years working at a level equivalent to the District’s class of Lead Water Systems Operator.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATES

  • Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification from District-provided CPR/First Aid training is required.
  • Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Grade IV Water Distribution Operator certificate is required.
  • A Grade V is desirable. Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Grade III Water Treatment Certificate.
  • Must have successfully passed the examination for a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Grade IV Water Treatment Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid AWWA Advanced Water Treatment Grade III is desirable.
  • Possession of a valid AWWA Cross Connection Specialist Certification is desirable.
  • Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Grade V Water Treatment Operator Certificate is desirable.
