The City of Monterey Park is recruiting for a Water Production Systems Operator to be part of the Public Works Department’s Water Production Division Team!

This position will require you to work shifts on weekends and during emergency conditions. 

This recruitment will be open in a continuous basis and may close at any time with or without notice.

Under general direction, the Water Production System Operator operates, maintains and repairs control systems, wells and pumping plants; including Liquid Phase Granulated Activated Carbon (LPGAC) systems; ION exchange treatment systems and air strippers treatment plants, and performs other related duties as required.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by specialized training in water treatment methods and practices.

 One-year experience in the operation and maintenance of water production systems and/or treatment plants.


Possession of a valid, Class C California motor vehicle operator’s license and a satisfactory driving record are required at the time of appointment and as a continuing condition of employment. Possession of a valid California Class B license is preferred.

 A California State Department of Health, Water Treatment Operator Grade 2 Certificate is required at time of appointment. T3 Certificate highly desirable.


 Requires some physical effort including bending, stooping, climbing and lifting items weighing 20-100 lbs. Tasks are occasionally performed in inclement weather.
