PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for operating the City’s water and sewer utilities, maintaining safe streets, sidewalks, and transportation, preservation of the City’s eight parks and other green spaces, providing a variety of environmental services, and maintaining all public facilities. Monrovia Public Works strives to provide the highest level of service to residents and businesses. The department is organized into two sections: Administration and Operations and together are responsible for all planning, construction, and maintenance of the City’s public infrastructure to preserve and maintain natural resources and provide a premier environment to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors. The Public Works department is in the midst of an aggressive five-year CIP that provides direction and organization to ensure the City’s financial resources are focused on projects that are priority for community enhancements.

THE POSITION

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing operational responsibilities including, but not limited to:

· Perform preventative maintenance checks on servicing water system equipment;

· Monitor and operate the SCADA system to maintain the City’s water system;

· Collect regular and intermittent water samples from well sites, treatment plants, and other distribution points as required by the State Water Board;

· Respond to routine and emergency situations in restoring the operation and treatment functions of the water systems; and

· Maintain safe and reliable water to everyone in the City of Monrovia.

*All Water Production Operators are required to occasionally work on-call, nights, and weekends in addition to the hours required to cover off-shift schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the qualifications would be:

High school graduation and one (1) year experience in operation, maintenance and repair of motors, pumps, wells and related equipment. Experience working with diverse groups and ability to exercise cultural sensitivity and awareness is highly desirable.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE

Possession of a Grade II Water Distribution and Grade II Water Treatment Operator Certificates within one (1) year of appointment.

Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License and a good driving record. American Red Cross certifications in CPR/First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Essentials.
