Wastewater Treatment Lab Analyst/Environmental Compliance Inspector I
Overview
Under general supervision, plans, organizes and conducts a variety of water pollution laboratory tests and analyses necessary for the waste water treatment plant to remain in compliance with state and federal mandates; operates and inspects the laboratory and maintains a quality level which is within EPA guidelines; performs other related duties as required.
Primary Responsibilities
The Wastewater Treatment Lab Analyst/Inspector I is an entry level class responsible for a wide variety of preventative maintenance and waste water analytical testing. Inspects industrial and commercial businesses for compliance with City pretreatment and waste water discharge permits. Incumbents in this class must work independently in the performance of assigned duties. This classification is distinguished from the Wastewater Treatment Lab Analyst/Inspector II in that the latter occasionally assists in the training of lower level Wastewater Treatment Lab Analyst/Inspector I positions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possess at least two (2) years of full-time experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment laboratory or the performance of related work
- High School Diploma or Equivalent supplemented with appropriate course work in laboratory testing and analysis
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver’s license
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Grade I Laboratory Analyst Certificate within 12 months of hire
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Grade I Environmental Compliance Inspector certificate within 12 months of hire
Additional Information
Only those applicants who meet the qualification standards of this position by the application filing deadline will be allowed to participate in the examination process. Examination scores determine standing on Civil Service eligibility lists. The City Manager, upon recommendation of the department head, will make the final selection and appointment from the established eligibility list.
The examination process may consist of the following parts: Application Package Review: Qualifying Only; Oral Interview 100% Weight Value. Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list.
