Utility Service Worker I: $3,783 – $4,599 / month

Utility Service Worker II: $4,180 – $5,081 / month

The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Utilities Department as an Utility Service Worker. At Corona’s Utilities Department, we strive to deliver the best customer service to all of our residents and businesses, with safety and reliability as our top priorities. The Utilities Department is comprised of five divisions including Water, Wastewater, Reclaimed Water, Electric and Solid Waste. Education/Training/Experience:  

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by college level coursework in water science or a related field. 
  • Utility Service Worker I: One (1) year of experience working in utility or public works-related maintenance and construction work.
  • Utility Service Worker II: Two (2) years of experience working in utility or public works-related maintenance and construction work.

Skills/Abilities: 

  • Operate a variety of construction equipment and tools used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water facilities and wastewater collection systems.
  • Use, repair, and care for tools and mechanical equipment related to water and wastewater utilities.
  • Respond to emergency conditions and be willing to work when called any time during a 24-hour period.
  • Carefully read and understand blueprints and system maps.

Special Requirements: 

  • Utility Service Worker I, II: Possession of a valid California Class “C” Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Utility Service Worker I, II: Possession of, or successful acquisition within 6 months of appointment, a valid California Class “A” Driver’s License with tanker endorsement, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Utility Service Worker I, II: Successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid trench and shoring certification from the City of Corona’s training program, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Utility Service Worker I, II: Successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid first aid and CPR certification from the City of Corona’s training program, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Utility Service Worker I, II: Successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid heavy equipment operator certification from the City of Corona’s training program, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Utility Service Worker I:
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment, a valid Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Utility Service Worker II: 
  • Possession of a valid Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate upon appointment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid Grade D2 Water Distribution Operator Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.

The Organization:

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager’s Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.
