Utilities Superintendent

JOB DESCRIPTION
Under limited direction, strategically plans, organizes, supervises, and directs staff on a variety of water and wastewater facility, pipeline, and related infrastructure repairs, and maintenance/installation work. Additional duties include:
- Participates in the development and implementation of operational goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; participates in the preparation and implementation of the District’s budget.
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs the maintenance, repair, and construction of the District’s water and wastewater facilities and pipelines; confirms annual schedules and periodically adjust schedules for maintenance, repair, and construction projects.
- Implements and assists in planning preventive and predictive maintenance programs for supporting continuous operations of wastewater equipment and processes; recommends, develops, and implements improvements in lift stations and facility maintenance procedures and work processes to increase effectiveness of maintenance programs.
- Establishes performance requirements and personal development targets for personnel; regularly monitors performance and provides feedback for performance improvement and development.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
The right person for this role will possess the following credentials:
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, public or business administration, or related field of study.
- Eight years of skilled, journey-level, technical experience in construction and maintenance activities of water and wastewater systems, including at least three years of supervisory experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
- Possession of a Class C California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Must possess a California State Water Resources Control Board Grade V Water Distribution Operator certificate and Grade II Water Treatment Operator certificate and must maintain the certifications as a condition of continued employment.
- Must possess a California Water Environmental Association, Collections System Maintenance Grade IV certificate within one year of appointment and must maintain certification as a condition of continued employment.
