Senior Maintenance Worker

The Senior Maintenance Worker is the leadclass responsible for assigning and overseeing crews involved in the maintenance of streets, rights-of-way, traffic control, grounds and facilities, water or wastewater divisions; provides a regular preventive maintenance program for assigned areas. This classification is distinguished from the next lowerclassification of Maintenance Worker by the performance of the lead responsibilities and more difficult and complex tasks of the work group.

General Duties

· Assists in the training of lower level personnel in the areas of work; ensures adherence to safe work methods, procedures and practices; ensures proper traffic control procedures are followed; identifies training opportunities and needs; makes recommendations to higher level staff.

· Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves service complaints.

· Evaluates assigned work projects; estimates time, materials and equipment necessary for the successful completion of the project; acquires necessary resources as is appropriate.

· Supervises the operation and maintenance of various types of equipment, tools and machinery used on assigned work projects.

· Maintains timely and accurate records and reports of all work performed, including labor, material and equipment used.

· Reads and interprets maps, drawings, diagrams and blueprints.

· Participates in the City’s After Hours On-Call and Surveillance Program as required.

· Perform other related and peripheral duties as required and necessary for the successful performance of this job.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Senior Maintenance Worker. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of three (3) years of directly related maintenance experience, and a High School diploma or GED.

License/Certificate:

· Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class “C” California driver’s license.

· Possession of a valid Class “A” California driver’s license

· Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Grade 3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate, per the State of California, Department of Health Services, within one (1) year of appointment.

· Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Grade 1 Water Treatment Operator Certificate, per the State of California, Department of Health Services, within one (1) year of appointment.
