Are you a skilled, motivated, and technically savvy professional looking to make a difference? The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a Plant & Equipment Mechanic to become an integral part of our team at the Hill Canyon Treatment Plant (HCTP). In this role, you’ll perform a variety of challenging and rewarding tasks, including installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment critical to the plant’s operations. We’re looking for a resourceful team player with a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identifies and performs a variety of maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and modifications on wastewater treatment plant mechanical equipment and facilities, including but not limited to:
- Mechanical grinders, pumps, valves, engines, blowers, motorized valves actuators, lab equipment, air compressors, etc.
- Industrial grade machinery, boilers, digester equipment, bulk chemical storage and delivery systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and devices.
- Fabricates and or modifies equipment mounts, brackets, supports, utilizing welding, drilling, milling, tapping, etc.
- Coordinates activities with operations personnel and contractors to ensure efficient and streamlined operations
- Completes and maintains maintenance logs on the City’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Responds to night and weekend emergency calls as needed

The Ideal Candidate should possess:
- A minimum of four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- A self-motivated work ethic with the ability to work independently and adapt priorities as needed
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve problems effectively
- Strong attention to detail, quality, and a commitment to exceptional customer service
- Dedication to maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment
- Experience with internal combustion engines and electrical generators is a plus
- A valid Class C California driver’s license
- California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Grade I or II Mechanical Technologist certificate is highly desirable
Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
