The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Utilities Department as a Meter Service TechnicianAt Corona’s Utilities Department, we strive to deliver the best customer service to all of our residents and businesses, with safety and reliability as our top priorities. The Utilities Department is comprised of five divisions including Water, Wastewater, Reclaimed Water, Electric and Solid Waste. Education/Training/Experience:  

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. 
  • Two (2) years of customer service or meter service/repair experience; government or public utility experience is desirable.
  • A valid California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Skills/Abilities 

  • Read and perform maintenance and repair work on a variety of water meter types.
  • Identify and respond to water service issues.
  • Read and interpret various maps, plans, specification sheets, and operating manuals.
  • Safely and effectively use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools, and equipment required for the work.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.

The selection process will consist of a review and evaluation of all applicants’ qualifications. Those applicants deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in a written exam tentatively scheduled to take place on June 4, 2024. Applicants with a passing written exam score will be invited to participate in an oral interview tentatively scheduled to take place on June 11, 2024.

The Organization

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager’s Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.
