JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision, perform routine to complex duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of the District’s wide range of mechanical systems and machinery used in the water and wastewater industry. Additional duties may include:

  • Maintains detailed records of lubrications, calibration, and maintenance performed to equipment and machinery utilizing the District’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Perform and assist a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties associated with the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of plant, field, and shop equipment, components, facilities, and machinery related to the treatment, production, and transmission of wastewater, recycled water, and potable water.
  • Perform inspections and maintenance of District facilities, equipment, tools, and vehicles.
  • Inspect, operate, calibrate, and maintain light/heavy equipment linked to department functions.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school.

EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Possession of or ability to obtain certification from District provided CPR/First Aid Training.

EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Mechanical Systems Technician I
  • Experience: Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, along with the specific licenses/certifications as outlined: Two (2) years of experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical systems, machinery, and components used in water or wastewater facilities.
  • Licenses/Certificates for Mechanical Systems Technician I: Possession of or ability to obtain certification from District provided Confined Space Certification, Forklift Operator Certification, and Certified Rigger Level I.
  • Possess the following within 12 months: Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP): Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician or department approved equivalent. California Water Environment Association: Mechanical Technologist Grade I Certificate.
  • Desired certifications: State Water Resources Control Board Water Treatment Grade I and Water Distribution Grade I. Possession of a Class A or B California Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and tanker endorsement and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Mechanical Systems Technician II
  • Experience: Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, along with the specific licenses/certifications as outlined: Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical systems, machinery, and components used in water or wastewater facilities. Experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical systems, machinery, and components used in water or wastewater facilities.
  • Successful completion of Department Administered Mechanical Systems Technician-II Proficiency Exam.
  • Licenses/Certificates for Mechanical Systems Technician II (including the certification/licenses of a Technician I): Possession of or ability to obtain certification from District provided Machinery Lubrication Technician I. Association of Boards Certification: Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification Class II or California Water Environment Association: Mechanical Technologist Grade II Certificate.
  • Possess the following within 12 months: Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP): Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician or department approved equivalent.
  • Desired certifications: State Water Resources Control Board Water Treatment Grade II and Water Distribution Grade II. Possession of a Class A or B California Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and tanker endorsement and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Mechanical Systems Technician III
  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Some college work (highly desired).
  • Experience: Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, along with the specific licenses/certifications as outlined: Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical systems, machinery, and components used in water or wastewater facilities. One (1) year of crew lead experience running high-priority jobs with crucial deadlines.
  • Successful completion of Department Administered Mechanical Systems Technician-III Proficiency Exam.
  • Licenses/Certificates for Mechanical Systems Technician III (including the certification/licenses of Technician I & II): Possession of district-provided Machinery Lubrication Technician I certification. Possession of an Association of Boards Certification: Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification Class III or California Water Environment Association: Mechanical Technologist Grade III Certificate.
  • Possess the following within 12 months: Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP): Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician or department-approved equivalent.
  • Desired certifications: State Water Resources Control Board Water Treatment Grade II and Water Distribution Grade II. Possession of a Class A or B California Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and tanker endorsement and a satisfactory driving record.
