JOB DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision, assists and supports with a variety of short-term projects, including data creation, cartographic design, and geographic analysis. Additional duties include:

  • Serves as a temporary employee with on-the-job training to gain experience in the field of study.
  • Assists with QA/QC of the GIS data and utilizes ArcGIS Desktop.
  • Assists in data creation, cartographic design, and spatial analysis.
  • Assists in completing requests for GIS mapping, analysis, and/or data maintenance, such as updating feature classes.
  • Assists with inputs and reviews of GIS data for completeness, accuracy, and neatness.
  • Assists in the preparation and installation of software applications.
  • Assists in the diagnosis and resolution of hardware and software problems.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

EDUCATION

  • Enrollment in an accredited school for either a graduate or undergraduate program is required. Area of degree emphasis in Geography, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field is highly desirable.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

You’ll need a combination of the following to succeed in this position:

  • Knowledge of ESRI’s Arc GIS products, including familiarity with feature class editing, performing spatial and attribute queries, and maintaining data.
  • Basic understanding of Geodatabase.
  • Effective communication skills; great attitude and work ethic.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

This is a part-time position averaging 20 hours per week. Scheduling is typically Monday through Thursday during regular business hours. The schedule will be flexible to accommodate a school schedule. The position will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects within the department.
