Environmental Biologist
The Ventura Water team is accepting applications for the position of Environmental Biologist.
What You’ll Do
The Environmental Biologist who works under the general direction of the City’s Wastewater Utility Manager, is responsible to plan, coordinate, develop, evaluate, and implement environmental mitigation projects and efforts to comply with environmental laws, policies and regulations that apply to Ventura Water. This position also is responsible for coordinating mitigation issues on behalf of the City. Additionally, the Environmental Biologist coordinates and conducts field monitoring studies, data collection, surveys, statistical analysis, prepares technical reports and when required, coordinates environmental analysis. This position is also responsible for managing a team of environmental consultants for estuary monitoring, budget development, and budget oversight.
Note: This position may be required to work weekends and holidays and perform other related work as assigned.
Who You Are
The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated experience or an ability to compile and review multiple data sets, summarize analysis, and conduct thorough quality assurance and controls; focus on technical report writing and reviews; understand and implement techniques for field observations and sample collection; and oversee contractor activities and manage multiple contracts. The ideal candidate will also have a knowledge of coastal estuary species, habitats, and State and Federal Laws for protected and endangered species. Additionally, they must have a knowledge of water and wastewater processes, analysis, and environmental permits.

Position Qualifications
A combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or a closely related field and two years of professional experience in environmental planning and biological impact analysis. Qualifying experience includes research, analysis, preparation, and/or evaluation of environmental reports or biological studies pertaining to environmental issues and/or implementation of habitat restoration projects. Experience with coastal estuary species, processes, and permits are desired.
License: Possession of a valid Class C California driver license and an acceptable driving record is required.
Salary and Benefits
The City offers a compensation package that includes both a generous salary and excellent benefits!
SALARY: $79,624.27 – $106,697.97 Annually DOQ
