Engineering Technician, Assistant Engineer, & Associate Engineer

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE
Engineering Technician: $6,176 – $7,507 | Assistant Engineer: $7,920 – $9,627 | Associate Engineer: $9,195 – $11,177
ABOUT THE POSITIONS
The Engineering Technician is a full-working entry-level class where incumbents perform technical support duties; the Assistant Engineer position is the junior level class in the engineering class series; and the Associate Engineer is the journey level class responsible for the overall administration and management of complex Capital Improvement Projects and on-call construction contracts and projects. Staffing for the class may be in multiple divisions/departments, including Engineering & Water Resources, Operations and Maintenance, and Environmental Services. Duties for these positions may include:
- Provides information to the public; receives and logs in engineering plans and specifications and conducts plan check reviews to ensure compliance with District requirements; performs tenant improvement plan checks.
- Fields inquiries in person or over the telephone from engineers, developers, municipalities, and the general public regarding District requirements relating to the planning, design and installation of water and sewer facilities within the service area.
- Performs research and prepares recommendations; meets and confers with senior and supervisory staff to resolve problems and coordinate activities. Provide water and sewer system designs and update District’s standard drawings utilizing AutoCAD software.
- Interprets applicable laws, regulations, policies, and engineering standards and applies them to project work.
- Monitors and provides design engineering support for capital construction work in progress; attends necessary construction meetings; conducts field investigations and site visits; prepares responses to RFIs and RFDs; participates in site acceptance testing.
- Participates in a variety of studies, investigations and consultant studies pertaining to water and wastewater facilities and processes; recommends modifications to capital improvement design and other departmental policies and procedures.
- When assigned to Operations and Maintenance Division: Provides frontline technical guidance and consulting assistance to plant management and operators to troubleshoot and resolve engineering, operations, and maintenance issues; identifies and finds solutions to problems in facility designs; implements capital construction projects, new equipment in facilities, and changes to plant maintenance and operations.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
- Equivalent to graduation from high school required with college coursework in engineering or drafting courses. Completion of six semester units or equivalent quarter units in engineering or drafting at an accredited college or university; or an equivalent program of instruction acceptable to the District, within one year of appointment.
- One year of engineering or related field/planning experience (including internship experience) is desirable, preferably with a water or wastewater utility; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher.
- Possession of or ability to obtain certification from District provided CPR/First Aid Training.
- FE / EIT Certification within one year is desirable.
ASSISTANT ENGINEER
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or other related field acceptable to the District.
- Two years of experience in an engineering office or administrative environment providing project and contract management for water and sewer systems; or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher.
- Possession of or ability to obtain certification from District provided CPR/First Aid Training.
- FE / EIT Certification is required.
ASSOCIATE ENGINEER
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or other related field acceptable to the District.
- Four years of experience in an engineering office or administrative environment providing project and contract management for water and sewer systems; or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher.
- Possession of or ability to obtain certification from District provided CPR/First Aid Training.
- FE / EIT Certification is required.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of California is desirable.
