Placement within the Engineering series will be at the appropriate level commensurate with the candidate’s demonstrated experience.
Engineer I: This journey-level classification in the Engineer series is responsible for professional and technical engineering assignments requiring the use of judgment and initiative in developing solutions to problems, interpreting policies, and determining work assignments. Incumbents are responsible for gathering and compiling data and preparing designs, plans, details, estimates and specifications for construction, operation, and maintenance of District projects.
Engineer II: This mid-level classification in the Engineer series is responsible for complex professional and technical engineering assignments requiring the use of judgment and initiative in developing solutions to problems and interpreting policies and may be responsible for monitoring performance and overseeing the work of professional and technical staff.
Senior Engineer: This is the advanced-level exempt classification in the Engineer series and assumes a high level of complex duties including the use of independent judgment and decision-making, initiative, and project management. Incumbents serve in the capacity of a leader, and perform difficult and responsible types of duties, including providing direction over department personnel. Individuals within the Senior Engineer classification series can expect to perform a variety of routine to complex engineering work from design, coordination and managing of municipal utility projects at the journey-level classification, to gathering and compiling data and preparing designs, plans, details, estimates and specifications for construction, operation and maintenance of District projects at the advanced-level classification.
Incumbents in the Senior Engineer class report to the Principal Engineer – Captial Improvement Programs.
Western Water employees are expected to work overtime, weekends, evenings and holidays as required to accommodate the Wester Water needs, in addition to responding as a Disaster Emergency Service Worker.
