As the Deputy Manager of Maintenance, you will collaborate closely with the Water Recycling Plant Operations team to strategize, schedule, and execute maintenance tasks on critical equipment such as pumps, motors, compressors, centrifuges, and boilers essential for the daily operations of a water recycling plant. Your role will involve leading and developing staff, managing budgets, overseeing maintenance programs, and driving process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the department.

THE POSITION:

Under direction, plans, organizes and manages one or more functional area in the Maintenance Department including planning, predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance and repair programs related to the Agency’s treatment plants, equipment, pumping facilities, distribution and transmission systems and other facilities; provides professional advice to management on the resources required to maintain and upgrade the Agency’s assets in a safe, reliable and cost-effective manner that meets all regulatory requirements; and performs related duties as assigned.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

A Deputy Manager of Maintenance is responsible for managing staff involved in the maintenance of Agency-operated facilities and assets. Work requires an in-depth understanding of the Agency’s systems design, operations and best maintenance practices. Work involves significant accountability for ensuring stable, dependable operation of facilities and equipment in compliance with regulatory requirements. Assignments are broad in scope and allow for a high degree of administrative discretion in their execution.

Employees in this class report to the Manager of Maintenance and manage the work of maintenance personnel.

Deputy Manager of Maintenance is distinguished from Manager of Maintenance in that incumbents in the former class manage particular programs or group of facilities rather than the entire Maintenance Department.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in maintenance management, business administration, engineering or a closely related field, and at least six years of progressively responsible experience in the design, installation, maintenance and repair of wastewater facilities and systems, at least two of which were at a supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

 

LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A valid California Class C driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency’s vehicle insurance program.

Within 12 months of hire or promotion obtain and maintain one of the following:

Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) Certification.

Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) Certification.

Certified Maintenance Manager (CMM) Certification.

 

Possession of the following certifications is highly desirable:

California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Maintenance Technologist Grade IV Certification.

California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Electrical and Instrumentation Technologist Grade IV Certification.

Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA) Certification
