Part-Time Customer Service Representative
Position: Under general supervision, performs various customer service and billing activities, cashiering, accounting, and clerical activities; receives and documents payments; processes billings; maintains detailed accounting records of customer accounts; responds to general customer inquiries and complaints; performs related duties as required.
Hourly Rate: Tuesday through Friday, 24 to 36 hours per week, $21.11 – $33.72 per hour.
Duties: Assignments and duties may include but are not limited to the following: process payments for water services; check payments for accuracy; batch payments into predetermined groups; calculate and post payments into computer; process applications for new service; calculate and post deposits into computer; prepare daily deposits and reconcile with accounting records; process orders from customers discontinuing service; answer questions and inquires made by the public or make referrals to appropriate personnel; participate and coordinate in the printing and mailing of customer billings with outsourced printing company; perform quality control checks on customers’ accounts, cash drawer, rate schedules in compliance with District water service regulations; use electronic and manual records to research status of accounts to answer inquiries and complaints regarding billing charges and services at public counter / or over the telephone; receive meter reads; record high and over reads; correct inaccurate readings and distribute service orders for rereading meters; dispatch field personnel for a variety of routine and emergency service calls; accurately count, record, and balance cash transactions and other monies received; individual should have knowledge of computerized billing and payments systems, electronic payments and bank transactions, internet software, spreadsheet software and word processing software; interpret District regulations, policies and procedures; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Education: A High School Diploma or GED is required.
Knowledge of: Knowledge of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping procedures and methods; record maintenance systems; working knowledge of computerized billing and payment systems; electronic payments and bank transactions; internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software; public contact techniques.
Skills and Abilities: Perform a variety of clerical accounting duties related to utility billing; respond to public inquiries, complaints, and service requests tactfully and effectively; type accurately at a speed of 40 wpm; accurately perform basic mathematical calculations; accurately count and record and balance cash transactions and other monies received; operate a computer terminal, typewriter, 10-key calculator by touch and other office equipment; bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Possession of a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License must be maintained throughout employment with the District.
Selection Process: Applicants are required to submit a fully completed Orchard Dale Water District Employment Application form along with a current resume. Applications will be screened for qualifications, required certificate/license copies, and appropriate background, and only qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the interview process.
Candidates must pass a district-administered pre-employment physical and undergo a thorough background investigation as part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass will be disqualified and removed from the eligibility list.
